You can choose to either copy your fonts to the Vault, hence giving you more control over them, or just leave them where they are. ![]() Suitcase Fusion’s interface is a natural next step in the evolution of font management: Simple, powerful, and easy to understand (Figure 1).įigure 3. Suitcase users will appreciate that the familiar one-window browser interface hasn’t changed much since the previous version, Suitcase X1. Suitcase Fusion keeps some of the best features of its namesake predecessor and still finds room for some, though not all, of the best features of Font Reserve. Extensis expects to deliver the Universal version of Suitcase Fusion in the first half of this year. The $99 Suitcase Fusion ($50 upgrade from Suitcase X1 or Font Reserve 3) is Mac-only software, but it is not yet a Universal application and therefore doesn’t run natively on the new Intel-based Macintosh models. The big question about the merger was, “Will it work?” Now that I’ve tested Suitcase Fusion, I can answer the question with a relieved, “Yes.” Veteran Font Reserve users (I’ll call them Font Reservists) may miss aspects of their old font manager, but Suitcase Fusion is as fast if not faster than earlier versions, and it’s added features that creative professionals - even Font Reservists - will appreciate. It’s taken Extensis almost three years to merge the two into one, called Suitcase Fusion. Once competitors with very different approaches to font management, they became uneasy roommates when Extensis acquired Font Reserve in 2003. While the move to a subscription-only model may not sit well with customers who prefer not to upgrade annually, upgrading to the latest version of Suitcase Fusion has virtually become a necessity in order to maintain product support and compatibility with the latest versions of macOS and Adobe Creative Cloud.You might call Extensis Suitcase and DiamondSoft Font Reserve the Odd Fellows of the software world. ![]() In addition to Suitcase Fusion, the Extensis font management product line includes Suitcase TeamSync which combines the power of Suitcase Fusion with cloud hosted font sharing (annual subscription required) and Universal Type Server, a server-based font manager for larger/enterprise environments. Users will be able to continue to use Suitcase Fusion 9 with macOS Catalina and Adobe Creative Cloud 2019 however, users dependent on auto-activation plugins will need to upgrade to Suitcase Fusion v.21 for compatibility with Adobe Creative Cloud 2020. Suitcase Fusion 9 (v.20) is the last of the perpetual licenses for Suitcase Fusion. Previously, Suitcase Fusion licenses (up to and including Suitcase Fusion 9) were available as perpetual licenses for $119.95 plus tax per license for new licenses and $59.95 plus tax per license for eligible upgrades. Customers will be able to access the complimentary subscription within their accounts no later than November 6, 2019. For customers who purchased Suitcase Fusion 9 (v.20) between September 1 and November 4, 2019, Extensis is offering a free one-year subscription to Suitcase Fusion v.21. New annual subscriptions for Suitcase Fusion are currently priced at $84 plus tax per year and will allow the primary user of the subscription to use the license on up to two devices. ![]()
